Clutter Cloud No More! Living Your Best Life
“Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor, it’s anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.” -Peter Walsh
“Clutter is not just physical stuff. It’s old ideas, toxic relationships and bad habits. Clutter is anything that does not support your better self.” - Eleanor Brownn
We all feel the effects of clutter in our lives from time to time. Some feel it when they walk into their office and see papers piled high. Others see it when they walk into their home and see toys scattered about without a place to go. Physical clutter can be in plain sight in your home, office or kitchen or behind closed doors in your closets, drawers or storage areas. Mental clutter is too many thoughts in one’s mind causing distractions, preventing decision making, or maybe resulting in poor decisions. Hectic schedules, demanding work responsibilities, or the multitude of sources providing information overload, some people walk through life with the feeling of a “clutter cloud” just hanging around them. Clutter is different for everyone; however, the effects of clutter can be disruptive and cause stress for us all. Why is this?
When our lives - schedules, possessions, thoughts - are overflowing and disorganized, it causes us to feel overwhelmed and unprepared. So, what’s the solution? It’s not a magic wand or an immediate fix. Decluttering is not something you can just decide to do and go fix all in one day. It will take time. Decluttering is both a mental and physical process and can be difficult and draining. Giving yourself permission to let go, getting organized one step at a time, and learning to say no when you know you should, will help set you in the right direction. Keep in mind it’s a process and a journey, one you must prepare for and adjust along the way.
So, maybe you’re still feeling iffy on this whole decluttering thing. And asking, “Will it really change my life?” ABSOLUTELY! And here’s why:
Maintaining order and balance in your life has a positive effect. Here’s how:
- Freeing: Clutter can create a distraction in your mind & stress in your life.
- Clarity / Greater Sense of Well Being: Remove what you don't need to make room for the life you want to live.
- Transforming: You don't need to minimize yourself out of a life. It's not about a life of most, it’s not about a life of least, it’s about the life that’s right for you (unique and personal).
- More Time/ Easier: Accommodate your own space and unique habits of your household.
- Life Changing: Best organized solutions often arise out of unique circumstances, needs or constraints.
- More Enjoyable: Keep what makes you happy.
Are you convinced yet? Getting rid of clutter WILL change your life. You will feel as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders or a cloud removed from over your head. If you need help, are unsure of where to start or feel overwhelmed, don’t do it alone. It’s okay to get help in the process. What’s most important is taking that first step to living your best and balanced life.
